The consultancy started in December 2012 about the possible extension of Geneve-Cornavin is come to its conclusions. An underground station is feasible within 2025. It will allow to achieve higher performances compared to a surface extension. The cost is estimated about 1.2 billion francs, 400 million more than the amount foreseen by the Swiss Confederation for the project. The signatory parties of the convention (Geneva Canton, Geneva Municipality and the Swiss Ministry of Transport and Railways-CFF) reached a formal agreement on the underground stations project.
The consultancy, ordered in December 2012, involved EPFL-Litep and Citec for functionality and exploitation aspects and Basler & Hofmann engineering bureau (Zurich) for civil and railway engineering aspects.
