Citec creates a mobility plan for a mountain bike World Cup event in Crans Montana

Citec

Citec has been commissioned by the Crans-Montana municipalities association to establish the accessibility concept for an MTB World Cup event, in close collaboration with the various stakeholders involved in the organisation.

Epreuve de VTT cross

One year before the 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Valais, Crans-Montana will host a round of the World Cup in cross-country, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series, with two disciplines: Cross-Country and Short Track, for juniors and elites (men and women). From 21 to 23 June, approximately 7’000 people are expected to follow the races in middle of the forest, located between Etang Grenon and Lake Chermignon. This event is part of the preparation of the Mountain Bike World Championships that will take place in Valais in 2025 for which Crans-Montana will organize the cross-country events.

Citec optimizes the mobility of a moutain bike event

In this context, Citec has been mandated by the Association of Crans-Montana municipalities as mobility manager. Simultaneously, Crans-Montana resort indeed wishes to have a multimodal mobility concept for recurring events (sport, leisure, culture, etc.). Our experts in large events have therefore estimated the multimodal demand of spectators according to their origin and their behaviour, in order to determine whether the existing supply is sufficient to meet the demand generated by the event. Following this analysis, they achieved a demand-offer comparison for public transport, road access and parking. The objective of these scenarios is to anticipate the filling of parking lots and their staking, the need for reinforcement of public transport (shuttles, funicular, buses) and traffic management in general, including monitoring of the upcoming event.
