Citec was invited as speaker at UITP workshop on last June 17th, in Newark (NJ, United States). This occasion allowed Stefano Manelli to share Citec's expertise and to strengthen our links on the other side of the Atlantic with transport and large events stakeholders.
With several major upcoming sporting events in the US, Citec attends to a UITP workshop (International Association of Public Transport), a worldwide network that supports sustainable urban mobility, focused on mobility challenges during large events. On 17th June, UITP organized a thematic day focused on major events, in particular international sports competitions in the United States. As the host country of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, the Summer Olympic Games in 2028, the potential Winter Olympic Games in 2034, and the Ryder Cup in 2025 and 2029, the discussions were centered on best practices for managing and planning major public transport events. Various topics were covered including infrastructure development, transport improvement, impact on local economy, environmental considerations and safety measures. Several stakeholders working in public transport were gathered such as, for example, Sir Peter Hendy (chairman of Network Rail and formerly Commissioner of Transport for London), Elodie Hanen (Deputy General Director for Île-de-France Mobilités), Felicia Alexander (Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation), Kevin S. Corbett (President & Chief Executive Officer NJ TRANSIT), Lauren Larusso (Co-Host City Manager and General Counsel FIFA NYNJ).
